but I would personally go with the pioneer 9800bt

Its got crossovers, a great eq, nice display options, and a ton of audio adjustments. You cant go wrong with the best Pioneer receiver. I personally preferr the high end Pioneer over Alpine, just cause to get good sound out of the Alpine, you need to spend a ton of money in accessories and processors. The pioneer also has bluetooth built in which is a major advantage.
Dude, I don't see that unit on Pioneer's website. Is it a current model?

X991 is way better. the only thing the the X993 has over it is the bluetooth for your mobile phone. X991 sq features will put the X993 to shame.

Personally, the only brands I look at are Pioneer, Alpine and now Kenwood. I don't think that Clarion and Eclipse and other companies are really up there.

disagree

I have no idea what Alpine is doing in the market, they have always been one of if not the best SQ deck available ... their current activities baffles me as they are primarily mid pack/ bluetooth/ no CD but pretty

Eclipse and Clarion make excellent products

Pioneer used to make some of the very best, they still have one good deck (Pioneer ruled the world before Alpine came along)

Kenwood has never been in this discussion of best SQ decks, maybe unfairly excluded (or maybe Pioneer and Alpine have lowered the bar so Kenwood is competitive)

^Yeah... when the hell has Kenwood become an "SQ" deck brand?

I find it funny that these so called "features" that make an SQ deck are things you can't control... such as bur brown, bits, chassis material, voltage, channel seperation, THD... blah blah blah.

IMO SQ features are things like: TA, seperate EQ's for left right, phase control, level control, advanced xovers and media type like DVD-A or SACD.

X2 claiming SQ and providing the things needed for the serious enthusiast are different things

and I don't mean to be hard on JVC or Kenwood as they do a solid job, They focus on solid no-nonsense decks that provide excellent value at their price point. Now Kenwood evidently stands up and excels at the video end of HU design (I don't have an opinion as i haven't gone shopping for this just yet)

I donno if its me, but I have seen few posts about Ipod/bluetooth connection.... If we talking about SQ- shouldn't that be of an audio cd(preferably bought in the store, and not burned), and not mp3, mp4 compressed formats?.... its like buying a 52" LCD tv and using it to run AVI/divx.....

p.s.- Pioneer premier has really good quality imo- I have an older deck (first true color display) and costme $300.. but that was 3 years ago lol... time adjustments/phase/EQ/LPS/HPS/sound enchancements etc etc... really good deck... i will think they still make good stuff...

Just get a Clarion DRZ9255 and be done with it, but that DAC converter box is huge and will be hard to tack away.
