Hifonics Europa powering front And sub?
#1
Hello, thinking about upgrading my winter cars sound after buying some gifts for the summer car. It is a 95 VW Corrado (SMall hatchback with a well lined interior). It has the stock head unit with luckillly a set of RCA outs. This car must remain stock in this regard. I have owned a Hifonics Europa for a long long time (4X40 or so). It is low hours and mint, as I took it out of my old car 18 years ago. How would this fare powering a ten inch sealed IDQ and a set of modest 5 1/4 componenets up front? The rear speakers are small Kaptions that the deck would handle I guess. My goal is to increase the clarity of the system and add closer to full range. Not SPL at all. Space is of huge importance, and the small box and chunky amp would be taking up some room back there. Thanks , Bob.

The Corrado is a great winter car. I don't consider it my Beater, but do feel a little bad about subjecting it to the harsher environment. My C is one of only 87 95's imported in NA, so it will be worth collecting from a numbers viewpoint. I am obsessed with fighting rust on this vehicle and it looks amazingly clean. (thanks Rust Check!!). It shouldn't be driven in snow, but currently is worth less than a low end Hyundai, so that's the way it goes. Anyway the summer car is a never seen snow 4 door 1998 BMW M3 bought a year and a half ago with 23,000 miles. Both cars are keepers, and I am set till they don't let us use gas anymore. In the event of a Nuclear atatack, where all computer chips fail, I will haul out my real long term car, that I will own for the rest of my life. A 1966 Corvair 140 that I bought in 1982. I bought a factory AM Delco for it last year on Ebay. Still need a speaker. How would a top end Focal sound through it? <G> Glad the old Hifonics meets with your approval, as more than one audio shop has told me a cheap looking Sony is a much bettter amp. Never bought that, cause I remember how loud and clear it played 18 years ago.

Old Hifonics amps are beauties, for sure, my buddy had a 4 channel (Gemini?) that ran his whole system, circa 1991/2, great amp. Your Corrado, is it a VR6 or a G60? Two of my buddies have 'raddos, nice cars. Here is one of them:
Didn't realize they made a 4 door M3, also. Cool.

North American Corrados have been VR6 powered since 1993 (I think the US got some labelled as 1992's). Canada received air bag equipped Corrados in 1995, of which only 87 were imported. The US stopped importing them in 1994. They are a real blast to drive, pretty strong, but suffer from expensive parts and sub standard electrical componentry.
The 4 door M3 was availale in North America for two years 1997-98. Your Bud's car looks very nice.
