yes ill use focals passive if i bridge it,otherwise ill have to pick up another pair of x/o's. so bridging it would be the cheaper way to do it too

yea, power is good. Anybody remember back in the day, that car that Rockford built that ran like 1000WRMS amps on each speaker? That was one of the best sounding cars ever. I never heard it but I'm sure a lot of the old schoolers remember the car I'm talking about.

I do see one potential problem with the bridging idea, it might be a moot point though...

The Polyglass passive x-overs that come with that set of speakers are not the beefiest ones around, and if you feed them a lot of power (depending on how loud you listen to your system) you may end up saturating the x-overs. A good way to tell if this is happening (IF it doens't sound like you think it should at high volumes) is to touch the x-over components (inside the casing) after an extended high volume listening session, if they are warm then you are probably putting more power through than they were designed for.

Like I said it may be a moot point as the speaker's ability to accept the power the amp puts out may match the x-overs saturation point, so there might not be any real benefit to changing the x-over.

Having said that, I purchased some AVI speakers many moons ago which came with some passives about the same size as the Polyglass x-overs and I bridged the amp and the results were not what I was expecting....soooo long story short I got some 400 Volt Solen caps and 12 guage aircore inductors with matching values to the cheap parts in the stock x-overs, and built my own. The result was open airy and effortless sound compared to what those speakers sounded like before.

Very shortly after that I ran into Howard Doctor at a sound off in Nanaimo (Howard was the founder of AVI and at that time very actively involved with the company) and told him I wasn't happy with the stock x-overs and showed him the new ones I had built. He asked if he could borrow them to take back to Vancouver and do some listening tests. Shortly after the AVI ads proclaimed their new x-overs were "so good, you don't have to build your own anymore".

I would bridge it. You will get improved low end response and less chance of clipping with more power this way.
I don't think that is correct. Bridging the amp is similar to running at a lower impedance which drops the damping factor which doesn't usually help low-end performance. Maybe with the power gain you would get increased low-end but then the overall output of the speakers would be increased also. And, bridging an amp usually increases the amount of THD it produces, which gets it closer to clipping. </font>
Damping Factor will remain fine as will the THD levels (inaudible) and with it in bridged mode you won't be pushing the amp to it's max very easily so clipping shouldn't be an issue.
Let us know how it sounds bones2.

islandfile, i agree with the x-over's i wasnt to impressed with them when i originally saw them , the crappy rockford ones seemed better, but ill give them a shot and if they suck ill get some new ones. but i wont be running an insane amount of power to them. theyre rated at 75, the amp puts out a good 150+ bridged but ill keep it down

hardwrkr ill let everyone know how it turns out
do u have kicks in ur j-body? i still have to build mine. so update prob wont be for a while

Bones2- no kicks, just a good deal of tweaking in the doors. Imaging and soundstage are actually quite good.
