how to tune an eq without rta?
persoanlly if you have spent the money on your audio system id seek out the services of someone who is handy with an r.t.a and pay the price
it will save you masses of time
the human ear is great for listening for the things we wanna hear providing we dont overload it and try and remember too much information
unfortunatly the human brain isnt great at remembering exactly what it is we heard
even just getting a basic setting with r.t.a and making sure all the speakers are in acoustical phase is worth paying for
from there on in just use your own ears and alterthe eq one part at a time and re-check to see if you have it correct or not

I agree with DEFRO, you have to have a goal or reference.Without it what are you shoting for? Also I would tune it yourself,if you pay someone who will set it up different than you would like....what did it really gain you?

Well let's put it this way, There are at least 10 members of this board that I would trust blindly with tuning my system, and I am not bad at it myself. I can think of a few that I may seek out and actually pay to tune it if I get real serious about competition.
^^Then you have very similar taste. I wonder if your partners(wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, whatever) resemble each other too. Personally, I like to choose my own settings for audio, looks for women, taste for foods, scents for my cologne, and the feel of fine fabrics to adorn my beautiful body. I just like what I like and could care less what others think is perfect or close to it. SET YOUR EQ YOURSELF TO YOUR TASTE!!
Unless you are planning to compete, in which case go to a pro who is familiar with what the judges are looking for.

correct good sound is good sound
but good to one guy maybe isnt to another especially a judge
when a system sounds good it will play ANYTHING YOU THROW AT IT and then come back and shout what else you got
thats when you know you got a great system
not one which needs constant change for listening to differnat musical styles or differant people
