Because I like the way having lots of rear fill sound especially since I like the sound of 6x9's, and because my 6.5"s were enough of a bitch to install, I don't want to have to take a full day to install new 6.5"s.

If you don't want to pay an arm and a leg, I don't recommend dynamat extreme. Go get some RAAMmat or B-Quiet Ultimate. Same stuff and 1/3 the price.
so ya, does n e one know if u can get adapter plates so you can properly
mount 6" in 6x9 slots?

FWIW, this is a pretty good write-up on 6x9 speakers: The Ultimate 6x9 Shootout. It suggest that good 2-way 6x9 speakers are as good (or better) than most 3-ways (6x9's).
I think components up front would be the way to go... I've got a set of 6.5 co-axes in the classic(ly bad) "low forward" door location in a '94 Nissan "King Cab" PU, and it's clear that it's not the best mounting location, SQ wise. Components would at least get things a bit closer to ear level. And mounting the tweeters should be easier than doing 6x9's or 6.5's.
As far as rear's go, you don't need much if you get the fronts right. The enclosed co-ax 6x9's I dropped into the back of my truck are too big for the job - I get that "band in the back" feeling - 5.25's might work well...
Maybe a sub?
