sub = 1000Wrms, dual 1 ohm or dual 2 ohm voice coils
amp = 600Wrms @ 2ohms or 1200Wrms @ 1 ohm (depending on your sub)

When you crank your volume the signal will distort, when you turn up the gains, the amplifier will amplify the distortion, which will cause the sub to make a "farting" noise.

So if your amp was setup without the remote gain control and it sounded good, when you hooked up the remote, even if you turned it up slightly it could easily cause distortion that wasn't there previously.

On the other hand, ignoring that possibility and going with the possibility it was just a fluke that it happened at the same time, it could be one of your voice coils. If one is fubared, the sub wouldn't get the power in the way it was designed to receive it. I'm unfamiliar with Fi quality, so I don't know the likelihood of something like that happening, but it should be a warrenty issue (given you bought it new)

Check the coils with a multimeter. Set it to ohms and both coils should read the same within .1 or .2
