jl audio a4300 question

Hi everyone,

As you can see this is my first post and I'm hopeful someone can guide me on how this should be setup.

Ok first i have an alpine w505 front end.
my amp is jl a4300.
i also have a kicker setup for my subs and that is a whole new question i might get to in a later post.

But as far as my jl amp i have been using it for about 2 years and really have no complaints for the amp. I have a set of DLS up360 connected and always had them connected to the front speaker connections and the sound has always been just ok.

Today i decided to run my jl amp in bridge mode and by doing this i was able to give each speaker 150 watts, the speakers are rated for 150 watts. I immediately noticed an improvement in sound but have been left with this question.
The manual says the jl a4300 goes onto mono mode while in bridge, is this a really bad thing?

also i read in the manual i should use a y splitter to separate the left and right speakers, is this nessecery as well? can i hurt something by not using the y splitter?

Thanks
