I am looking in to adding some midbass to the car (2007 Yaris). I have Energy 5.25's which I will be putting in the front doors and a shallow mount Kicker 10inch in the rear. I am looking at adding some midbass however am very limited by space. I am not interested in door modifications and have no room for kick panels. I was thinking about adding the midbass under the seats. Will this throw off my imaging significantly or should I be alright?

I don't think that should affect your imaging; have them play 250Hz down.

Yep....unfortunately midbass is still high enough to be perceived as directional....ie. your ears will be able to hear where it is coming from....it doesn't become omni-directional until you get down below 80hz or so.......

 

well if anyone has any great ideas to fullfill my midbass requirements in a Toyota Yaris please feel free to let me know. If I had an automatic the foot room would not concern me much however that is not the case. As far as doing another speaker in a fiberglass door anything is possible however it would be significantly difficult as I have less room cause of the crank windows. I wish I would have gotten power windows

 

So would the issue be that under the seats is "off-axis" then?
I've heard cars with the mid-bass located about 1/2 way back on the door, and imagining was fine . . . I thought a few inches further back and then slide that under the seat wouldn't make a difference . . .

 

well big red guy your analysys is very good just your xover point is just a bit too low... directionallity comes into play at about 320hz and up so you can get away with. i have placed pyle pro drivers in the bottom of my seats on my lynx xr3 car.. placed a wood board to the bottom of the seat, sealed it up with mono expanding foam and placed the sub from the bottom up, worked pretty good but definitly not what i was looking for... if needed i can post some pics of it.. large midbass upfront is not always necessay for great upfront midbass... i have sat in few cars with only horns upfront and midbass in the back of the car and subs in the trunk....
