Need help finding the perfect 12inch sub
#1
So here my criteria, im a building an sq car to compete in Iasca and I need to find a sub with a very good dynamic range that needs to play to at least 135 db on the new audio control pressure sensor. Here the details of the car, box and amp powering it:
Car : 1991 civic hatchback
Enclosure: sealed, utilizing spare tire was as the enclosure with mdf panel on top to seal it, I estimate roughly 1.5 cubic feet.
Amp: MTX Thunder 225 h.o. (high current) to be run bridged to 1 ohm, as I understand this amp puts out nearly 800 watts rms and around 1000 peak.
So the sub will need to be able to take a 1 ohm load and survive the amount of wattage this amp will throw at it. It needs to be a very musical sub and still be able to hit the 135 db cap for iasca SQ comp, and it will need to function in a very tiny enclosure. I really need to pro's to help me out in this case and not the people that are just here to sell product or that have read stuff in magazines i need really experience here. Who can help me? One more thing i should mention is that I am doing this on a shoestring budget so cost is a factor.

I have to say I absolutly love my IDQ v2. Its sitting in a nice big sealed enclosure and sounds very nice. Doesn't have quite the power handling of my old Focal 33vx, but as far as sq, it is very close for a fraction of the price. Too bad your looking for something in a dual 2ohm config as I may be pursuaded to sell my IDQ for a decent price. But its a dual 4ohm. It has to be one of the most babied subs on the planet. It runs in 8ohm off a Zapco AG350. Its had a pretty slack life as far as subs go.
Anyway, my vote goes for the IDQ and if you have the cash Focal.

So I think I have narrowed it down to this sub

Though I am also looking into ecplise subs as well, still have more reading to do on them.
