New thread on Alpine CDA-9887

Okay, this thing has a 24 Bit DAC and for $400.00 CDN it seems like a good price.

Anyone had a listen to this HU?

This is a better unit from Alpine in the last couple of years. I would buy it, and $400 is excellent.

The deck has all the tools you need to make a great sounding car. The imprint portion is just a bonous. $400 is a good price.

I wonder how the SQ compares to the Eclipse line.

I hear the imprint technology or rather feature requires an additional component in order to work.

I was looking at the 9887 locally, but decided to pick up a new cd7000 off ebay instead.

The Imprint Sound Manager for this unit looks interesting:

I personally cant compare SQ from one high end unit to the next. They all sound excellent, but different brands have distinct sound characteristics. I found that Eclipse sounds more neutral, Alpine sounds more trebley. You have to figure out if you like brighter sound, and what tweeters you are running, as Alpine will have a crisper sound. That said, if you have something like Titanium tweets, and run it on Alpine, it could be an ear-bleeding combo. Both brands appear to have narrow tiny sound, some would call it more precise. Pioneers appear to have the most robust sound characteristics, but the sound may appear less sharp. But as I said, all high end gear will sound great.

I could be opening a can of worms for a massive debate, but that is not my intention. My experience.
