2V pre's - not great, but enought to get your amps to clipping so....
2 band eq -
24 bit da's - nice
So it's a good head.. maybe look at putting in a EQS or DQS from audiocontrol or something like that at some point in time if you do this unit.n That will give you lots of drive into your amps, ton's of EQ control etc etc
Ultimately for you it's about how much iPod control you want and how bad you want it vs SQ...
See if a dealer will let you try one quickly in your ride, adjust the gains quickly and do some listening.. Your ears will tell you what you need to know and make the decision for you... Maybe it's 100% for you, maybe not
It's unfortunate, but as 12V lovers we will probably have to get used to this for the foreseeable future as consumers keep puting price pressure on manufactures but demand more technology.. SQ will play a distant 3rd or 4th place.. Funny to see so many 2V heads from Alpine as when I was in retail I remember them being one of the first to push 4V so hard...
Times change I guess... sniff sniff

I went to a local dealer and compared the ipod only deck to the 9885... i found the 9885 to be MUCH better and 100$ cheaper so i bought it .. it does ipod thats all i care.. i dont really care too much about pictures and big screen.
Its all about music... will update in a week or so how to me it sounds compared to 8600mp
thanx

Ouch your 8600 was a great deck, it has the same internals as an deh-p880prs except it's not 3-way active capable (the 860mp is).
so if you want to compare new decks to new decks, compare the 880 to alpine decks....

i Loved the 8600 minus two MAJOR problems.
- OVER HEATING on 1hr + trips.
- Faceplate failing.

And i believe the faceplate has been upgraded too... mine seems very solid.

What kind of car did you get?
