Packaging issues - Now need a 4 channel and a sub amp
Those who are regulars to the forum may have recognized me seeking out opinions on high-end 5 channel amps. I was pretty much set on a Memphis Belle based on my history with Memphis products.
Fast forward to several pints last night with an old buddy of mine who was an installer up until a couple of years ago (he actually did my current truck, an Explorer Sport Trac). I was talking my plans up on my new truck build for this winter and wanted to pick his brain.
He thought a long amp like the Memphis Belle or the Audison Vrx might limit the way I package the amp inside the truck. I need to keep cargo space near maximum as I'm a sales rep and often am carrying a lot of product in the back
He thought if I could find a couple of small footprint amps they would fit under both sides of the back seat. That way, I can go with a single sealed 12" to minimize cargo area loss.
When the seats fold the seat bottoms sink towards the floor but still leave about 3 inches of clearance. He estimates I can fit amps with max dimensions of about 15"x 10" by 3". However, it's been a couple years since he's done an install on an Explorer (2002-2005 models)
Most of the high-end audiophile SQ amps that I've been recommended are upwards of 24" and simply won't fit under the seat because of the transmission tunnel. What high-end products might fit this footprint? I think the ARC KS 300.4 will fit according to their website, as will the KS 500.1. Any other suggestions given a street price budget of $1200 for the pair?
I'm also considering the small Class D amps from Alpine (the PDX) and JL (the HD), but I've heard mixed opinions on the Alpine (any feedback here would be good) and the JLs are pricey. Any thoughts? Anybody know where I can get the JLs for a good price either locally or online?
Just to give you an idea, I'm likely going to run front components (likely CDT or Focal, maybe Morels or DLS) and some sort of rear fill - standard 4 channel configuration. I may also add some type of additional front stage eventually, something like CDT's Upstage, but I understand that works off a replacement crossover that allows one to keep a 4 channel amp (please correct me if I'm wrong). Again, likely a single 12 in a box with enough loose cable to be able to shift the box around the box when necessary.
Sorry again for the long winded notes. Thanks in advance for all your comments and ideas

The Alpine PDX series are built upon the ICEpower class D chassis that Eclipse brought to market almost 5 years ago. They most certainly should have something that would work for your application. Pioneer Premiere is another company that is also using the same circuit design in their ICEpower amps. Lots of options to consider now. Under a seat, the class D design is going to be the best choice regardless of the brand.
