Lightbulb

A product rep will often recommend you stay with the passives for two reasons:

1) While a well tuned active setup will probably sound better, you'll get great performance from the passives and it's a no brainer.

2) It is 'safer' for the speakers (especially the tweeter) to run through the passive.

add to that the fact that focal doesn't make an active crossover, so you'd have to buy something from someon else... put 2 and 2 together here...

Your comments and suggestions have been most helpful in making a decision.

I'm not familiar with the cross-over.

But unless it uses complex notch filters like the Seas Lotus units, I'd definitely suggest you go active.

If you're going to do an active crossover, you might as well just bi-amp the speakers.

I run my MB Quart 2 ways active. Just because i can.

No, really i tried every way i could. Passive single, passive bi-amp and active.

Active sounds better to me. And thats what counts.

without having the knowledge of how to tune an active setup the chances of hurting the equipment is greater and a passive setup would be recommended.

For now I will stay passive till my processor arrives, then I will go active.

This is new territory for me, but like I always say... if you don't try, you'll never learn, plus with the knowledge from CCA members who have done this, I'm sure it won't be too painful an experience.
