What you are talking about is the next frontier in system tuning. I've talked to a few people in the high end home market, and people are looking at trying this. It will however, be application specific.

I'd gamble that Meridian will probably be the first to offer this type of signal manipulation in their products. It's not too far off what they are doing now with their digital loudspeakers.

I think the key thing to understand here, is that changing the "timing" of the input signal at specific frequencies is the next step. NOT, changing the driver's relative phase across it's entire working bandwidth as done by most Time Alignment modules or processors. As mentioned above, driver's phase response changes across their bandwidth. I think exploring this issue more could realize significant gains in SQ by further understanding how this affects what we hear.

Wouldn't that be a factor needed in CAR AUDIO only applications?

I mean the PURIST is someone who should stay in the home audio realm and leave all the processing needs to car audio.

Let's face it...when ever you play a track with just vocals where are the vocals? ----Assuming you have a good natural center image then the vocals will be in the center...BUT when you go to play a track with guitars and instruments recorded etc...the Vocals somtimes tend to shift closer to the right or left...I do not think that adjusting the time of one speaker will fix this problem simply because...now all the other frequncies will be delayed also...not just the vocal frequencies which are centered around 800HZ-3KHZ( somewhere there anyways). Thus smearing your WHOLE NATURAL soundstage...

PEI...I would love to experiment with one of those processors...as cutting edge as they may seem...I think they might be necessary.

What percentage of improvment in your soundsatge do you think will be gained by using somthing like that...I find some piano tracks tend to move to the left and right on specific notes. Or even some drum tracks.

Not necessarily.

You can change the phase response of an incoming signal but not affect the time delay.

so a bandwidth specific phase processor, sounds familiar, i brought it up in a post about a month ago and got laffed at by the "purists"
HAHA HO HO we fart in your general direction!

Sorry, been away for two weeks at a conference...

Consider what you get when you shift phase by 180 for all frequencies.... time delay will remain zero

I was going to post this to begin, but I think now is a better time:

http://forum.elitecaraudio.com/showt...6&pagenumber=1

I think most of you serious SQ guys are members there anyway.
