Please help me with the front stage in my Dodge Ram
Hi guys,
I'm new to your site and there certainly is alot of useful info here. I've just installed a system in my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Turbo Diesel. I used to install stereo on a pretty regular basis (last system was Blade, OZ Audio and JL subs in a Volvo) but I haven't kept up with the latest greatest in quite some time. I could use a bit of advice for my front stage and hopefully a bit of help troubleshooting some system noise.
I have a little system noise when I have the key turned forward to the run position (vehicle running or not) but none when the key is turned to Acc. Ground and power are from the factory deck. When the volume is set to zero the noise disappears but when I turn the volume up to 1 it's there. The head unit is a brand new JVC AVX 33 and the amplifiers are Alpines (PDX 4.100 and PDX 600.1) with the gains set in the middle. Any ideas?
The system currently consists of The JVC KD-AVX33 in dash DVD player with Ipod controller, an Alpine 4.100 running two older Infinity reference 6x9s in the front doors with two new infinity reference tweeters in the pillars (capped) and two new Infinity Reference 6.5 coaxials in the rear doors. I have an MTX thunderform running on the Alpine PDX 600.1 for a subwoofer. The entire truck has been Dynomatted and the doors are now totally sealed. I have ample midbass (which I like and don't want to lose) and the rear fill is strong and tight but the front and lacks the ability to stand my hair on end with SQ tracks. I think I need to upgrade the front stage to get the sound I want. I don't want to modify the basic truck or get into builoding kick panels. What component set should I use? I'm considering:
MB Quart's RCE 269 6x9 component set
Focal 165 V1 components (will the tweet fit?)
Infinity Kappa 6x9s using my current reference tweets
Infinity Kappa 6.5 component set
CDT ES620 6.5 component set (would these require door modifications?)
As you can see I'm a bit all over the place with this but I'd like to get it fixed once and for all. Thank you for all of your help!!!

Yeah, the CDT Audio Eurosports will murder any of the other choices... but in all fairness you're comparing an ultra high end model to lower models from other manufacturers.
All of the speakers mentined will require modification if installing in the front as I believe 2001 rams are 5.25" up front... I could be wrong though, anyone can confirm?
Rears are 6.5" though... but you want these speakers up front.
The ES-52i (5.25" CDT Eurosports) are what I'd suggest for up front and will require no modification.

In my 98 (same body style) I put both 6.5" with just some rings I cut and the 7" Seas I have in there now were the same except I needed to cut a little of the tin for the bigger driver. The tweets are in the stock position in the pillars and I am in the middle of making some kicks for the 4.5"
You should have no trouble with a 6.5" in the doors
