Hey guys i got a crazy deal on some Hertz components i paid 200 for 2 pairs of DSK 165 Energy, bascially brand new. I'm putting a component set in the front and planning to put a set in the rear also, is it a bad idea to put components in the rear. Cant find much info on this.

Amp running them will be a kenwood excelon Xr-4S 120 watts per speaker. I listen to pretty much everything. Rock, metal, jazz, dance, top 40. Car is a civic Hatch. The head unit is a kenwood excelon.

 

I've run components in the rear of almost all my installs.

It's personal preference. Some don't like having rear speakers, some do.

I like rear fill myself. (that doesn't sound right)

It's not necessarily bad. I would not waste money on rear speakers but since you already have them, no harm in using them.

 

That makes sense, i was actually considering selling a component set and buying a coaxial for the rear, the hertz energy coaxials. Somebody was telling me components in the rear are not good for sound staging, but aren't components and coxials pretty much the same thing lol.. They both have tweeters.

I would be mounting the tweeters very close to the woofers to.

 

My opinion is that it's better to have speakers in front of you, Instead of behind you...Just doesn't sound right to me.

 

If you're going all out SQ then the only speaker/s behind your ears would be a sub. Ideally you want your speakers in front of you for best staging and imaging.

With that being said, I have a set of coaxials in the rear deck. I've been tweaking the fade on them to give a rear fill but not overly noticable. On some songs it practically sounds like I'm listening to headphones. And I like that sound. Probably not the best for SQ but I like it.

In the end it's personnal preference. Try it. Like it, keep it. Don't like it, sell it.

To answer your question; If anything you can achieve a better sound stage because of the adjustability of components. Coaxials are fixed and can't be pointed individually. My tweeters are pointed differently than my mids. I found the staging better and imaging more clear. Tweeters are pointed more towards ears and midrange pointed more over the shoulder. It really does depend on the speaker whether it sounds better off axis or straight on. You have to test to get the results.

 

Another thing to consider is blocking bass in your trunk from getting into the passenger compartment with the rear speakers installed.....

Most installs I've done in trunk cars have had the rear stock speakers yanked.

After the front stage is in and tweaked not many people miss them......
