Finally someone got it right! Thin layer of silicone (the real vinegar smelling stuff) on the inside and outside of the surround covering the tear. Let dry 24 hours. You will not hear any difference at all. You basically just repaired the tear so it would not tear any further.

i recomend wurth black sensor safe silcone it is excellent

Silicone works great with foam surrounds also. Just make sure you get it applied the way you want before it cures. Once it dries a second application won't adhere to the first.
