So I guess I'm an SQL guy who needs a home...

I've always posted in the SPL forum, because my goal is a loud system.

I figured that I should post here, because although I have been given great advice in that forum, it's all been geared towards having a loud one note wonder...

I'm looking to have a LOUD daily driver for music. I guess I'm what people would call an SQL guy.

I want no clipping at all, nice round waveforms on my oscope, and running at least 1000W @ 4 ohms (1 sub) and 2000W @ 2 ohms (2 subs).

I recently bought an Earthquake amp, based on advice from the SPL guys, but it doesn't shine until you load it with less than 1 ohm, and just doesn't sound as good or loud as my previous amp.

By my standards, my previous Fosgate is good and clean, but it's only 750W @ 4 ohms and can't handle down to 2 ohms to support another sub.

I'm currently looking at MTX or Kicker at the moment.
Which one of those two would you guys perfer for raw clean power?
Any other brands I should be looking at?
$500 limit.

if you're gearing for SQ - L you should be considering A/B amps instead of D... as seeing D class wave forms will make your teeth grind.

for what you are looking for may be hard to acquire with just a $500 limit unless ur ready to settle for a used amp... I hate e-gay but give it a try for an old PPI or one of the older US Amps they put out good power at 4 or 2 ohms and had low THD with very high damping factors... this is what im guessing you're more interested in over a EQ PHD

amazing amp was the US Amp 2000x I believe to be the 4 ohm model the 2000 is the 2 ohm model ( could never remember right which the "x" symbolized) but good luck in finding it in the $500 range

^^^ That is a serious piece of equipment!!! And I agree with MTA about D class, which has the worst sound out of any class. AB is waaaay batter for SQ. I am using class H now, and loving it. Efficiency is between AB and D, but the sound is very close or equal to AB. I replaced the D class with my new baby, and could not believe the difference. However, my buddy has Kicker D class and it sounds good in his car.

Hey andrewsfm,
I have many amps all great sound and in your budget. I'm in Concord about 20 to 25 minutes from you. Send me off a pm and we can talk.

Could also look at the Rockford 25 to life amps.
I've got the punch 150 and they birthsheet at 800-900 watts bridged.
Cost about $180 on ebay, plus ship and duty you could probably get two of them for around $500.

SQ is often thought of as being for low volume listening only. Which is simply not true. I listen to my music at some pretty loud volumes, and my car is built for SQ only.

Why are you looking for 1000Watts. Is that a magic number or is your 750 fosgate just not enough?
What do you have for your front end?
$500 will give you lots of room for a sub amp.
Class D is fine for SQ, you just need to find the right class D.

fozz beat me to it. I'm into SQ myself. And, yeah, I,ve heard a number of setups with Class D sub amps that sounded just fine. Just don't have you sub playing to high up and with a quality class D, you should be fine. I was using an 800W Class AB amp for my sub before, but I'm consdiering maybe going to a class D for my next setup. Or a USAmps 2000x... Mouahahahaha...

The downside of that amp, is the 300A current draw. Class A/B amps just aren't that effecient.

Try maybe sending user "ross" on this forum. Last I heard, he had a few good deals on some amps.

class D sucks and class a/b rules...blah blah blah...class D amps (full range) are also included in Richard Clark's amp challenge and nobody's collected yet. I'd be very surprised if any one of you A/B believers won the challenge. Before you say, "those are full range class D, and these are class d sub amps". I think most of the criticism of class D has been in the high frequency range overall, and few...well except you guys...claim that the differences are audible at low frequencies. Anyway, here is a link to the rules and general explanation of the challenge by an outsider (posted previously by another member, but thought I'd create some trouble again...lol!)
