^ the overall SQ from the 80s/ 90's was not inferior to todays, I think it is much easier for less money to sound good now... but has the bar been raised?
Amplifier, tuner, and speaker technology has had mild evolutions in the last 30 years, few revolutions.
Digital has been the revolution

Yeah, the basics of amplification and electro-magnetic transducers go back to the 30's or whenever, but things like CD's, DSP's, optical links, etc don't.
Why not be honest and just say "I don't like soundstream gear because of my opinion on the company."

i have sold soundstream over the years and its safe to say that soundstream no longer makes speakers like the ss10r/12r the ss511 and 611 component speakers, they were vifa derivitives and were amazing. i ve recently had an opporunity to install a set of soundstream component systems, tarantula i belive, they are supposes to be their best ones, and lets just say that if thats the case the components speakers have taken a different sound quality approach to the older components. do i dislike the brand, why would i, spiders scare me but thats another story. my experience, however limited, with the new product, heard it and saw the full line in vegas leads me to belive that the products being sold today, speakers i mean, aren ton the same level as others ive used. that is a subjective evaluation based on one set of thier supposed best speakers. perhaps at some local shows this year i will have an opportunity to hear some in some vehicles, and we will see how many podium

I can tell ya, it's nice living in an area like the Ok or Lower Mainland where mosquitos are very few compared to the Prairies but holy freakin' crap are the spiders ever bigger! I understand the Ok has non-venomous black widows. I once saw what I think was one in Penticton many moons ago on the side of a house. With the legspan, it was easily bigger than my outstretched hand.
