speaker mounting for min. vibration/rattles

Might seems a silly question, but is it better to mount rear deck speakers with the bolts really tight or have them just snug with some rubber/foam between the speaker and the deck (where they meet)
I have put lots of material to dampen vibrations, but I get some bass rattling that only comes at specific vibrations and does not seem to be coming from the speakers.... very hard to detect exactly where it comes from.

any tips welcomed

thanks

randy

There should always be something compressible between a speaker and it's mount. Foam, plumbers caulk, even carpet in a pinch is better than metal on metal or metal on wood.
