Speaker positioning /subs

The stock location for the rear speakers are in the rear hatch of the minivan , pretty well firing into the back of the seat, if the sub boxes (rear firing/sealed) weren't in the way too.

The questions are - Will running speakers in that location be of any use, firing into the subs etc? Does it effect the bass at all?
As cheesy as it may look, would adding 6x9 boxes(forward firing) onto the sub boxes deliver better overall sq?
I'd try to find some pillar pods or something similar, but the budget is blown.
Any off the wall ideas are appreciated.

Thanks bro. I figured as much, I'm hoping putting them a lil closer(on the sub boxs) will help with rear fill.
They'll probably be amplified with the fronts, so I hope I can hear em after I move em.
Peace

big vehicle with speakers way back there, no thank you:P

i'd recommend you concentrate on your front soundstage. spend twice as much on the fronts and forget about the rears.

you are going to way money, amplifier power, and possibly soundquality, just to achieve a little more volume all the while dragging your soundstage way behind you.

also putting them in boxes will most likely remove and semblence of bass.

spend that money on deadening your front doors or upgrading those speakers.

Sounds like real good advice. I have the 6x9s(never used pioneer whatevers..lol) already.. Should I power them with an amp and another set of speakers(read on) or just use the head unit.
I have found a way to upgrade my fronts(currently PG zr6.0)..so far the options I like ($ wise) are Soundstream reference 6.5 comps or JLAudio xr 650csi comps . I have the money I just wanna REALLY shop around. I can get either, brand new online this week for under $200, which is my limit.

The only power I have for mids/highs is the Clarion HU and a clarion 2X100 @4 ohm (2 ohm stable).

If I run the new 6.5 comps on the amp and the 6x9's and zr 6.0s on the HU , would that be the best sound you figure?
I do have a soundstream digiq and another small line driver , so I'm not worried about taking voltage away from the sub amps(2 total -1360 rms) to power the low rms speakers on the HU.

I hope some of that made sense.
Thanks j . What do you think?

lol, im trying to follow that.

but if it were me, put your two channel on the front 6.5"
those are nice speakers you are looking at, but you can find better value.

i would recommend you look into something by hertz/focal/morel for your fronts....then again they are great, but again you can probably find better value.
talk to MR2NR on here. you can probably get a sweet deal on higher end eclipse stuff in your price range.

do those vans have three pairs of speakers?
also, what is a digiq?

take voltage away from the sub amps?

a line driver will simply increase the voltage of preouts being sent from a headunit. usually used in longer runs and cheaper headunits.
i don't see how running speakers off the headunits internal amp will alter this.

all in all, run your two channel on your fronts. if need be you can run the other four speakers off the headunit. but look into investing in a 4channel amp in the future and plan accordingly.

Man, I soo want a good set of focals!! I have been searching for focal, just nothing I like, I can afford..lol
I'll check out morel, eclipse and hertz, thanks
Yeah there's three sets in the van, 6.5 in the doors, 6.5 in the rear door(would fit 6x9 ) and a set of tweeters in the side door rear pillars.
A soundstream digi q - digital eq 1/2din dash unit (8 volts to f/r , 10v to the sub channel) ..I needed the 3 preouts the deck has only 1
About the voltage - long ago I was talking to a guy with a great system.
He mentioned something about not using a cd decks amp or it would effect the signal or give less voltage to the preout, something like that. effecting SQ I think it was. He used a crazy in dash signal processor and a changer .. 24 volts I think the SP was..( this is in the early '90s)
I'm guessing I got something mixed up or he was wrong huh?

I use a PG tld 22 line driver, and you hit the button, we were only using the stock HU with 3 amps at one point and we used it to bump the voltage. I thought we could still use it to give the new class d max voltage, I have to split the 10v from the eq to 2 amps. The tld is 10v and 110 s/n ratio. This would help something yes? This guy said voltage means ALOT and I guess I never forgot that.

A 4 channel is on the list for next year or maybe a lotto win..
I don't care for Clarion, its whats left of my bros stereo, I'd trade in a minute if he'd let me.

Sound advice thanks alot j. 4:20s almost here better go

ya, im not the biggest clarion fan either.

preout voltage has to do with the noise floor.
the stronger the preout voltage, the less amplification the signal needs. therefore you can have your gains set much lower, effectively lowering the noise floor and improving sound quality.

24volts sounds a little strong. that would fry the input section of pretty much any amp.
alot of amps don't even accept above 4v. most around 8v.

focal has some great stuff, but it isn't the be all end all of stereo equipment.
hertz and morel have offerings just as good or better. so definitely check out all three!

i see what you are saying now about taking voltage away from the preouts by using the internal amp. honestly i have no idea if it would be affected.
maybe in a cheaper headunit with a lower end power supply i could see it happening. who knows.

specifically, look into hertz HSK-165.

also, why not just run your one preout to one amp. use a passthrough(if either amp has one) and then go to the other amp.
like you said, the rest of the speakers are just off the headunit.
this would definitely be the easiest and most simple way of running it.

So when you use an amps pre-outs it sends the same level of voltage it uses, on to the next amp? That would be much easier huh. I wish I would have know that before..
I just checked out those hertz hsk-165... stats read better the the other two I mentioned I wanted , Thanks, Theres actually a set for auction right now ending in the morning at $99 plus about $60 to ship(USA) .. good price you think?
I would take them for that price, maybe I'll get lucky and they'll finish low.
Cheers bro!

60 seems high for shipping, but even so , $150 is a good deal.

however!
just like focal, i am pretty sure that hertz does not authorize any online sales. i have never purchased any online, but i know there are fake focals out there.
just make sure you do your research and are buying from a reputable seller.

and ya, im pretty sure there is next to no drop off in voltage when using a pass-through. (measure the strength with a multimeter when you do the install before and after the passthrough).
again, a high preout voltage is not needed. it is just nice to have to keep the noise floor as low as possible. which is especially important if you are dealing with a noisy amp.

also remember, just because a deck is rated at 4v, 2v or whatever, that is going to be the max preout voltage on musical peaks. so unless you are peaking with the headunit maxxed out. you will not be sending that.
