SQ Decks: Alpine & Clarion
If you are really looking for SQ I would suggest finding an Alpine from a few years ago. Certain Alpine's had a DC/DC convertor, and was pre-out only. By removing the internal amp the signal to noise ratio is raised a lot. A few decks like this are the CDA 7995 and 7998. The 7995 has time correction, X-overs, and can be run in three way mode. The 7998 has the above features with the addition of a 7 band EQ and the crossovers are 6,12,18,24 dB steps.
The 7995 is pretty un common and the 7998 is really rare. Also the people that have the 7998 won't give them up, like me.
The reason I suggest older Alpines is because one with the DC/DC convertor can be had for under $500,
Someone mentioned that you get the 5.1 with the Alpine, unless you are planning on using a center channel don't let that be a deciding factor for you.
I just pulled out a Blaupunkt Chicago which has Dolby 5.1 in it, although the ability to switch to stadium, concert hall, etc.was coo,l my 7998 sounds much better.
Just my 2 cents.
