I just swapped out my 10 year old Alpine for the new Alpine CDA-117. That is Alpine's best SQ head unit right now. It has loads of built in tuning features including a choice between 5 band parametric or 7 band graphic EQ, HPF (60,80,100), Media Expander, time correction, 24 bit DAC, etc.

Pioneer 880PRS

Got it fairly cheap and I'm happy with it, it's got too many options for someone like me who is amateur, but I hope I will grow into it :P

7909 has been my favorite! .. and yes, I have a few broken ones too. if the transport is o.k. which is unlikely. (caps needs upngrading on CD transport, clutch slip issues, weak laser pick up, etc) -- the power supply goes. (no audio out) which is actually a fairly easy fix if that's the case.

Kenwood Excelon X-991, WOW HD makes such a huge difference when combined with the T/A. Moves midbass onto dash from bottom of door. Fully adjustable X-overs are beautiful as well. Also internal amp can be shut off.
