SQ subs (and wiring them)
SQ subs (and wiring them)
I called a friend who is a carpenter to see if he wanted to help me build a sub box when I get a sub. He put a higher end pioneer 10" sub in his car last year and said that apparently with some companies if you want to run your sub/amp at 2ohm or 4ohm you should buy the right sub to begin with rather than buying a 4ohm and wiring it up 2ohm.... He said something along the lines of "some companies don't make subs that you can do that with anymore so be careful." I told him i'd ask the experts, so here I am.
What I want to do is buy a 4 ohm DVC sub and wire it up for 2ohms. My question to you folks is, will this still be fine with the subs they make these days or is there some truth to what my friend told me??
These are the subs I have been looking at getting:
Boston G5
JL Audio 12w6
IDMax
RE xxx
Treo ssi
JBL GTI
Polk SR
Secondly, I want to run about 500rms @ 2ohms.. which of the above subs (I want a 10 or 12) will have the best pure sound quality? (I don't care about spl too much, I already have an SPL vehicle)
I went and listened to the Boston G5's the other day and they seemed to be really good subs, but a bit sloppier than the lower end models (e.g. the G2). I want a sub that's extremely accurate and sounds great at a range of frequencies.
Any advice/suggestions would be great. Thank you for your time.

I would go with Treo a non commercial brand that can realy take the heat and sound good while doing it , Image Dynamics is a good sounding sub also but thats just me.
As for the ohm load it would depend on your amp as alot of SQ gear can not put out proper power at lower ohm loads because they tend to lose potency when they play at 2ohm as efficency sucks.

I don't have it yet, but it's the MB Quart RAA1000 amp. Apparently Hardwrkr was running two 12" oz audio subs off of this (as those are also for sale). Would this amp be good at 2ohm or should I use it at 4ohm & just find a 250-300rms sub?

cross out that xxx, it probably wants more than 500w
i've yet to hear a jbl gti(someone needs to hurry up with the install
), but i think you should give it a listen. problem with it that your amp will do a little less into 3 ohms, so this might be an issue.
