sub on bose sound system

hi, I have an 02 nissan maxima that came with a bose sound system, I was wondering if I could install a sub and keep the speakers or if it'd sound better if I replaced the speakers too??

i have the Bose system in my avalanche!
the saying goes "No HIghs, No Lows, Must Be Bose!"
the first thing i have done to my system is change the head unit. i must say the system came to life. it was like a whole new system. this sparked me to want to change the speakers. my attitude became, if it sounds this good with the stock speakers i really really want to hear it with after market.
i have purchased and should be installing my CDT's this weekend. unfortunatly i havent settled on an amp yet.
my suggestion is get a new HU as a start. this will give you a much better idea of what those stock speakers are capable of with a little eq action.
good speakers on a crap hu will just be crappy!! thats not to say you cant spend lots of money on adapters and filters to clean that sound up from the stocker and get good sound. competitions have been won with stock hu. not without cleaning the sound first!
fyi, i installed a Kenwood DNX8120. its an amazing hu but pricey!

which ever way you choose, keep us in the loop!

i have not got the cdt's powered yet, so i could not say as to the sound.
Sasha (member here) is using cdt. pm him for his imput. nice honest guy.
cdt's can be had for cheap from the canadian distro who is a member here also (Ross). i will pm his info to you so you can check pricing yourself. you will get faster responce from him if you email or call.
as for subs, im in the same delemma as you. Sasha has/had a pair of arc subs for sale that i still would luv to hear, alas getting together with him has proved to be difficult. no blame being put here, just stating facts..(thats for him when he checks this post) hehe..
for amps i am looking at CDT's new SQA-4100 4channel amp. bridged 2 channel for my front. i will problebly use the hu for the rears as space is premium for me. i need lots of power for my fronts as i have 6.5 subs going in.
Specifications
4 Ohm - 110W x 4CH
2 Ohm - 160W X4CH
Mono Bridge at 4 Ohms - 320W x 2CH
Frequency response-3dB - 5Hz - 60kHz
S/N Ratio(A-Weight) - _100dB
Channel Separation - _65dB
Variable Input Gain Control - 0.15V~5.0V
Input Impedance - 47 k?
Crossover S/W - LP/FULL/HP
Variable Hi-Pass (12dB) - 30Hz~500Hz
Variable Low-Pass (12dB) - 30Hz~500Hz
Variable Subsonic Filter (12dB)- 15Hz~45Hz

maybe a us amp or zapco for sub. dont know model till i choose the subs. have to match the amp to the sub.

i have investigated memphis, arc, cdt, dd, re for subs and cant settle on one. i have not heard all of them yet and am looking for more of an sq/sql rather than spl. i do like it loud from time to time. not looking to be hear 3 blocks away though. some of the bigger names ie: kicker, jl, focal, etc.. seem to be overrated for the money. all depends on who you talk to though. although i really, really liked the focals when i heard them, just to pricey for me.
everyone has an opinion as to what sounds good to him/her. we all hear diffrently. for this reason its best to go listen to as many speakers/subs as you can and make your own decision on what sounds good to you..

btw welcome to the board!!
