Subwoofer Suggestion?

im making an SQ setup in my EK hatch and i was wondering which sub i should use? i want to use one sub and i can power it with anywhere from 500 watts RMS to 1000 watts RMS. i was thinking either:

JL 13" W6V2 or JL 10" W7V2

now my question is which one should i purchase? the price is almost the same but th W6 is about 30 bucks cheaper in the end. I want pure SQ but i still want it to get loud. is the W7 far superior to the W6? im also open to other subwoofer suggestions... my main thing is to get it done right.

i was also thinking of a 10 or 12" alpine type-x... i could get this a lot cheaper also... any good?

They'll be a huge difference in output between a 10W7 and a 13W6v2. first decide how much low-end output will satisfy you and go from there.

I prefer the sound of the W6v2 to the W7 for pure SQ duties. The W7 has the potential to get louder though (however it also lkes to be fed more power to perform).

Type X is a good driver also. My suggestion is go listen to the drivers in question and see which one you like the sound of best.

Don't rule out drivers like the IDMax and OZ Matrix Elite either. The new IDQv3's should be available shortly and with their history as very good sounding SQ drivers at a very affordable price the v3's with more output ability might be just what you're looking for.

If a 13W6v2 can fit in your application, I think it's a no-brainer...go with the 13W6v2. The 13W6v2 also has a lower FS.

I'm not sure if you're talking about the W7 versus the W6v2 in general or not...but in terms of the 10W7 versus the 13W6v2, I imagine that the 13W6v2 would easily have more output than the 10W7.

thanks for the help guys. my problem is I don't have any JL Audio or Alpine dealers near me. i've heard a lot of kicker stuff and im not a big fan. I had 2 solobaric L5's and sold them after a few weeks because in my opinion, those woofers are garbage. i listen to every kind of music so i want the sub to be versatile. the Type-x can handle more power than the 10W7 and 13W6v2 and is about 150 bucks cheaper for me which is why i threw it out there. Im tired of screwing around with my systems tho so i wanna do this right the first time. if that means shelling out extra money for a more superior woofer then im fine with that.

Has anyone heard the type-x? is it far off the JL stuff for SQ? any help is appreciated guys... thanks.

I have 2w7 8s in a ported box on 500 watts and they are only 2db quieter than the 2 w6v2 12s I was running at 30 hz on the same amp . The big difference is in the sound . The w7 can sound unaturally aggressive . Great for techno and rap but the w6s sound much more natural on instrument based music . For a sq. app I would chose the w6 . Never heard the alpine stuff though .

this may be a stupid question but what does a "lower FS" mean?

Yes I was comparing the W7 line against the W6v2 line in general.

in towards the driver?
facing the rear taillights?
facing up towards the cieling?

i kno i have tonnes of questions but im fairly new at this stuff and i want it done right. thanks for your time.

FS = Resonant frequency

If you're open to other drivers, I'd suggest you look at the IDMAX. It's a very efficient driver.

With my limited experience with the Type X, it seems like a fine driver. But it seemed pretty inefficient. In terms of tonality, it really digs down deep...too deep for my tastes.

In a hatch, I usually get the best results firing the subs to the rear.
