HOw do you sq oriented ppl tune cars?
My method is..
Play pink noise, and use a spectrum analyzer and balance everything out. Is this the way many do it?
Going by ear doesn't help as cd vary from one to another. thanx for your help
Justin
btw: runing
Phenoix gold x400.1 for sub
phoneix gold x100.4 for mids
sub is focal 33K
front speakers are Focal 165V slim
head unit is Eclipse 8445
hope that helps.

I tune mostly by ear. If I have access to an RTA, I’ll do that to see where I might have some big peaks or valleys or sharp transitions (all of which generally are not desirable). So I use it a secondary device but not primary. I’ll try and listen to a song I’m familiar with, one I’ve heard on many different forms of audio systems and hopefully a song I’ve heard on a system I’ve been impressed by. I’ll listen for something that might be out of place, either too much or not enough. Is the bass guitar too present? Not enough? Is the female voice too shrill or too muted? Is the upper bass bonky or smooth? I’ll try to systematically focus in on specific frequency regions and go from bottom to top and adjust the sound to where I like it. First by crossover, then by eq. That’s all mostly talking about tonality though and not imaging or soundstage.

By ear is allways the final and first stage. An RTA helps get you in the ball park and save you time. I know what I like and remember what it looks like on the RTA with pink noise. The RTA is an snap shot on what it looks like because your ear can fool you. In the final stage or coment do you listen with your eyes or ears.
The other day my wife took me to the live performance that had the full orchastra and band. Wow! I listened with my eyes closed and boy it was diferent. I had teares running down my face in pure joy on what I was listening to. now if ony I can capture that sound on an TRA and reproduce it in the car.
Any way good luck.

I do it all by ear but I would like to get my hands on one of these analyzers to give me an idea of how flat my listening preferences are. For the most part I only have problems tuning my sub, the midbass and midrange speakers are a lot easier.
