Underpowering tweeters?

I currently have a passive crossover system with a newly installed JBL MS-8 processor. I could easily run an active system now with the features of the MS-8 at hand.

Theres just one thing... I would have to power 8 Image Dynamics Xs-28 tweeters (100 watt power handling each) from two channels rated at 127(actual rms watts) each. I would wire 4 per channel into 4 ohm. Thats roughly 32 watts per tweet. The other 6 channels would power 6 midbass speakers so no problem there.

I have no more space to be adding more amps to convert to an active setup. Taking advantage of the MS-8 to its full potential would be nice but I'm afraid the tweeters won't have enough power. I own an oscilloscope so I'll be able to detect any clipping.

Thanks!

why do you have 8 tweeters in your car? all connected to the same 2 channel amp?

Right now I have 3 sets of components (6 mid, 6 tweet) with passive crossovers for my front stage. Two Alpine PDX F4 amps are running those along with a set of 5x7's in the rear.

If I were to convert to an active setup, I'd buy two more tweeters to wire them correctly to make 4 per channel at 4ohm. The rest of the channels would power my 6 midbasses and the JBL MS-8 can power the rears.

All I want to know is, would wiring 4 tweeters to one channel at 127 rms watts be okay?

Feel free to suggest any other ideas

the short answer is probably yes.
However I am still wondering why you are running 3 pairs of components up front? I have seen systems with 2 midbass but multible tweeters? doesnt that cause all sorts of poor imaging and soundstage issues because of multiple sources?

You certainly dont need to play it that loud.. Id hate to be your ears!

The reason why I'm running 3 pairs of comps....is the same reason why people buy Ferrari's for example. It goes 200 mph, but you rarely go that fast. Only on occasion to put a smile on your or someone elses face.

I knew about imaging issues before I started the build, so I've lazer aligned everything to attempt to cut back on these issues. I'm surprised with how well my soundstage and imaging turned out. The MS-8 put the icing on the cake afterwards

Reality is that your tweeters probably will never see more than 32watts regardless while playing music so they will be absolutely fine.
