bleh, obviously didn't want to research for ten minutes either, so the above are better than say brax, sinfoni, helix...yadda yadda as well, you did say "best"

You know i do agree with you their but people will not go out and look for a brax or sinfoni. Helix is also good but a lower end amp when comparing to brax or sinfoni. How many people here, will say they have had any of these rare european works of art over mainstream production models like focal or zapco. And i would still not consider helix a better brand then any of the others i said.

Lightbulb

And I guess this is where the thread takes a turn...

Aside from features such as being able to plug into the Zapco, or power, or bling, the very last reason for changing from your JL is any hope of a change in SQ.

People will blah blah blah and say whatever and tell stories about what they or their cousin or buddies brother did but the fact remains that the number of people on this planet who could tell the difference in sound between two amps making the same power with no processing would fit in a phone booth. No RC mumbo jumbo, just flat gain matched amps.

So buy what you think you need to impress your buddies or feel good about yourself, but my advice is to buy decent good quality amps and spend the large money on front speakers.

We are not talking about what other people have, and if you want to, people who top the pyramid in the world of SQ run high end amps, european manufacturing and pure quality built product not anything that impresses people. And as for only few in the world can tell good sound quality from an amp. Doesnt take a superhuman its called a mic and a test cd found at your local iasca comp... test and 1 2 3 anyone can notice the difference. But i guess since nothing else was noted, you must be one of those true listeners to notice that audible difference.

Don't pee on the Legatia's. As I understand it, that stuff did VERY well in the IASCA championships. And just because you have top end equip, doesn't mean that you're going to have awesome sound .......... the way SQ should be anyways. It's fine to blow smoke up your buddies yooo-hooo about what you have, but if it isn't planned and installed right............ you just wasted your dough.

Talking good luck

What can I say that has not been said.
Everyone is on some kind of budget.
There are still some good amplifier companies out there like the ones you stated. Zapco being my most respected and loved.
If your system sounds good to you it does not matter what you have.

I have never run any jl or audison so I can't comment yet I have run zapco (old Zapco that is) for years and they rock and still rock almost 20 years later. Good luck in finding today's amps last that long.

Anyway take care and just listen to your system and enjoy it.

I think I might be one of the guys who can fit into the Phone booth! LOL.

I test all my prospective equipment on my home system. I've had the chance to play with some pretty good products. I've done A/B tests. And in the end I'm still using a mid grade amp (based on pricing). I have only heard serious tonality changes when comparing really poor quality amps to mid or high grade ones. And even then, the differences are not huge. The biggest difference I've found is in staging. I can head some pretty noticable differences in the way two different amp stage. The trouble is, I find it hard to find other people who even understand staging. And that could be the real issue. It took me a few years to figure out where each instrament should be on my reference tracks.

I spend a lot of time listening to music and really taking the tracks appart. But I don't think that work is nessessary for everyone. Generally, I just tell people to get the best quality amp they can afford from a respected company. I don't use the best amps I've heard (too expensive for me right now), but I've still won 2 World Championships. If you can get your car to sound really good without spending loads of cash, then go out and by the expensive stuff. For now I'm happy with average Joe amps.

Oh, Zapco DC should be considered mid grade IMHO.
