How do they compare....looking at a 12 in a 91 Firebird. Memory tells me the funky hatch box has about 2.5 ft to port with.
Gonna be using around a Jonah Lomu 2011D amp.
Around 850 RMS into 2 ohms, 700 into 3 ohms at 12.6 volts

The W-7 is mo money and has a 3 ohm load, so a bit tougher to get the power, but does it sound better?

the W7 has a big response spike @ approx 40 Hz, so it sounds really loud, the IDmax has a much flatter response curve to it. plus the IDmax is about half the price of the W7, and will wail at 850 RMS (you could put 2 of them in a 2.5 cube sealed enclosure, and they'd stil play hard at 850 RMS, they're just that efficient)

overall, W7? meh, not worth it, even at half the price, the IDmax is definitely worth the dollars.

That's kinda my opinion too, but have never played with the W-7 yet.
Did a Max 12 in a Tiberon with the same amp and it's sweet'n low, and loud.
Should be even better with the horn effect in the Firechicken.
Two sealed will add 1/2 a $k to the price and only save a couple hours on the box..will that be worth the extra $400?

2 sealed might give you a little more extension, but really, ether way will be good.

umm, for value, the IDMAX is way better. the W7 seemed a little more musical to me, but they are so close in performance you might as well save yourself some money and go ID

If you want the better sounding sub you will take the W7. It has a more controled response and plays lower. But it does cost a tonn more and the differance's are minimal.

I went sealed with two 12's for my 1991 GTA. I was happiest with that setup after trying numerous enclosures.
It was built as an SQ car but still did 144dB certified on the mic of the 1998 era.
Two IDQ 12's sealed would be very nice. I have also heard good things regarding the AVI SLS-300 and two of those should work nicely on that amp as well.
Just a couple idea's.

With the better warranty now offered by the good folks at Kankar, and the new lower prices, I'm leaning towards the Max, if only to try to meet the customer's budget.
Do you think two of em sealed would go as loud as 1 ported?
1.25 ft each seems a bit on the small side to retain the low end.

oh...just checked, and it's right on. A single ported shows about a 4 dB gain over a single sealed...hmmm...guess the extra cone area, and double the power handling might be worth it.
