If you want SQ, you are going to need to upgrade your budget some or start looking for used and abused decks.

Don't listen to the pessimists. You can get a top notch SQ deck under your budget new.
How does 149$ with free installation accessories grab you?

Clarion DXZ785USB
Clarion DXZ785USB In-Dash CD Receivers with MP3 / WMA Playback In-Dash Car Stereo Receivers and Head Units Car Audio and Video - Sonic Electronix

It can do 3way active, has seperate left and right 3 band PEQ, T\A, phase shift and more.
Nothing comes close to this guy for thet price it is available for.

It doesn't get more SQ then that at your budget.

^First I ever hear of it.

Needless to say, many people in the industry would have quite the opposite view.

OK I have never heard a Clarion head unit, YET. I am running Clarion signature series 6.5" components and 10 " subs. If the quality is anywhere near that of my speakers, get one. Also can't go wrong with the Kenwood Excelon line. Just so you know I am not basing this off my personal opinion of them. 2 second place IASCA SQ trophies should suffice, as well as many dbDrag SPL and bassrace...

20 years ago I would not have touched Clarion either, now however after using their speakers and dealing with them for waranty after blowing both midbass in a SPL comp I am a true Clarion fan.
