Hey I'm going to be setting up a new amp sometime this week or weekend. and I'm just woundering what everyone sets their fronts and rears to? in Hz that is. is there anything that's kind of a default that everyone uses?. I'm going to have 5 1/4" Alpine type S's in the front and 5 1/4" Kicker ks 525's in the back... at some point i'd like to git another pair of the alpines. and then I'm going to have a kenwood KAC8404 4 channel amp.
Any opinions count here guys.

 

Start at 80hz and go up or down from there.

 

... what is higher? what is lower? if you go down from 80Hz is there more bass, if you go up is there more treable... would 80hz for back and 100hz for front work good?

 

Yes, down would be like 60hz and it would play more bass, up like 100hz plays less bass. You can try to play with them. Seeing as they are both 5 1/4's you should be able to set them to the same frequency depending on their enclosure/baffle.

 

well there's not really an enclosure... the door one's nicely attach to the door fame (the steel part) so there's no rattle there. and the back one's sit in the hatch... they don't rattle either... but there's no enclosure... and a baffle... dunno lol... but that's good to know... or to conferm i guess.

 

No big deal, just adjust them so they sound good to you... usually 65-80hz is the norm.

 

like said above, start at aoround 80hz.

adjust your gains accordingly, and then go from there.

if the speakers arent handling 80hz well enough, go up to the 100hz range. but be sure that your gains arent cranked.

i honestly wouldnt go lower than 80hz, thats what subwoofers were made for. but if your not running a subwoofer (like myself) then set gains accordingly and go down the hz range til distortion, then back down your gains a bit.

I currently have a set of 5.25" comps and 6x9's crossed @ 50hz

 

lol well i have subs so the 5 1/4's are just for the treable and a little bit of mid bass.

 

I wouldnt go any lower than a x-over @ 80hz

 

I concur. 80hz for 5¼" is pretty low. I doubt they could handle much lower, especialy since they aren't necessarily crazy top of the line stuff.

I'm not saying they won't sound good, just that they weren't conceived to be able to handle lower frequencies like some of the crazy expensive stuff can. (I'm thinking of those focal 5¼ subs here).
