What sub, with SQ in mind.
The lighter the cone, the better the SQ !??!?!?!?
Listen, I have these Russian subs for you then. The cones are lighter then a tit hair. That must mean they have the most bestest SQ in the universe !!! Or these other subs I made in the basement.......... concrete cones man. SPL giants........... but don't tell anyone I have them.
My gawd man. I think I understand what you are trying to say, but that's no rule of thumb at all. There's a lot more to it then the weight of the cone in deciding what's best.

There is definately more to it than the cone weight or material used. I would maybe suggest that you shop and research what is being used out there and in what applications. You will find that your rule of thumb is going to change a lot. Make sure that you make an educated choice man cause it really sucks to waste money on a sub and find that you later are not happy with it and end up changing the sub, the box, and maybe the amp too.
Good luck!

Efficiency has nothing to do with it. It's mostly a useless spec when it comes to subwoofers. The box, the car, the design will have a much bigger effect than efficiency.

the way it was explained to me is the lighter the cone is the easier for the magnet structure and coil can pull it. making it more effecient for use in sq. cause it can respond faster to changing signals.
i am no expert in no way, no one is, if i am wrong in my statement i am wrong, but the way it was explained to me made total sense.
