2 15's = 220sq"

Hello Lessy,

What formula are you using to arrive at your conclusions?

The correct fomula (assuming a round speaker) is Pi*R^2

12" speaker
3.1416 * 6^2 = 113 in^2,

15" speaker
3.1416 * 7.5^2 = 177 in^2.

3 x 113 = 339
2 x 177 = 354

Cheers!

i would always go with 2 subs over 1. even if you have to go with a smaller sub i would take 2 10'' over 1 15'' anyday. the two subs give you a lot more play and creativity with your enclosure. sure it will probably take up more volume but you have a lot more options when you have two subs. plus i think it looks way better to have two subs in a trunk!

K, my $.02...
It comes down to the almighty dollar. Two $100 subs will sound the same as one $100 sub...just a bit louder. A single $200 sub should sound better cause it's a better sub. I'd rather have one L-7, IDMAX, W-6, etc, than ten Clarions.
So...I always sell as few subs as possible, and spend my customer's hard earned money on quality...usually one sub, unless you're way up there in total system cost.

The important word in there is "should".

What's wrong with Clarion subs?

I used to have a 10" Aluminum cone and it pounded, nice and tight, real good woofer.

You ever heard 10 Clarion subs?

Well I see you run a single 12" Focal now Brandon.
I'm not slamming Clarion (although I do think they're a "good" sub if your driveway is slanted)
I've got a pair of flat aluminum 10's in the showroom that sound pretty good. For the money tho, they need twice the power, and cost more for the pair, than a lot of other drivers in comparable sized boxes that sound a lot better.
Was merely stating a preferance...I'd rather have one good one, than 10 cheap ones.
Perhaps it's the installs, but so far in the past year, I've replaced 7 subs,( all with multiple Clarions), for single ported boxes that go lower, louder, and clearer. Maybe not the norm everywhere, but I only have one competitor in town here, and all he does is Clarion, and not well either.
Low, Loud, Clear, or Cheap....pick any 3.
