I guess the biggest diff between SQ & SPL is that you don't need your ears to judge or to tweak a SPL car........ just your eyes to watch the SPL meter!

While SQ is all ears........

a lot of people just don't care what others think is good SQ. I'm one of them, I completely disagree with most "experts" as to what good SQ is, or should sound like. In fact I dislike the typical sound in most competition SQ set ups. That's the main reason I would not compete, my ears are the only judges that count... and my important passengers.

Hey guys.

I have been on the phone all week talking to some dealers and it looks like there are going to be some very good shows this year.

I will be assisting dealers and local promoters with IASCA SQ and IDBL shows for this area. Moe has asked me to take over some of his responsibilities as he has become even busier in Daytona trying to take IASCA to the next level.

To date there will be a show in Mississauga on July 16th both SQ and IDBL as well there is a show in the works for June 25th in Lindsay for IDBL. There are five other shows I am trying to confirm so I can get them posted for you to see when and where they are.

Also I have been working on a judges training seminar and I should have the final details by the weekend. This is a great oppurtunity for you to get involved and learn more about IASCA and the new rules.

Stay tuned and if you have any questions dont hesitate to email me at icebird88@hotmail.com

I personally don't like the idea of winning or loosing a comp because someone feels that my sounds good or bad, I’ll leave opinionated contests to things like beauty pageants and american idol

Interesting comments...in USACi we offer the "Q" class. Which requires no installation aspect what so ever. It scores you all SQ...also on a side note USACi North American attendance is up over 51.2% in SPL and 68.3% in SQ over last year so far this year. These number have not been this high in 10 years. Car Audio is alive and getting stronger. In my territory car audio is up with every retailer I have spoke to...

Instead of the idea of getting your car judged, look at it as improving your system and getting feedback on how to improve your system. You can get opinions from guys how are not tring to make money off you.

Also its great to meet people who are passinate about car audio, sharing info...having fun. That's all I think events should be...

^ I do agree to some degree............ I have been a Iasca judge for many years. and I was invited to judge at the Finals back in 94. but I declined on the offer....

I have listened to a lot of serious competition cars through the years. and I do agree that alot of the competition cars out there just don't sound that good! many cars sounds rather lean, lifeless, analythical and extremely smaller then life on presenting instruments and vocalist etc. Some don't even play loud enough for to judge the high level linearity track. and thats including some reputable competitors thats been to the finals numerous times. I definately don't feel these cars represent what an ideal SQ car should be.......... but it wins shows.

There are very few cars that could delivers dynamic musical impacts and presents instrument at a realistic level across the soundstage. Which is how I would feel a good SQ car should have.............

SPL is very engineered and analytical, you make a change and you see definate increase or decrease. Mathematical process.

SQ is more complex in changes in the fact that a change may not necessarily be seen in an instant. More artistic and creativity, perhaps a little more patient.

Basically one is like hockey, the others like figure skating. One a winner is declared by a clear integer, and the other gets judged.

I apologize in advance about comparing figure skating to SQ competition.

The LAST thing on earth I want to see is James Chevrette in spandex.

That is the difference between IASCA and USACi...flat linear is IASCA style. USACi is about dynamics. Don;t get me wrong, I support both and competed at IASCA finals last year. I think educating an entry level consumer is key. Example - is the sax in the left etc. Does it sound like a sax. Then start staging etc...keep it simple then the judging gets harder as the season progresses. Coach them etc.
