woofer/tweeter placement

woofer/tweeter placement
So I continue to plan out the install for my 2009 Civic Coupe. From factory the doors are setup with 6.5" woofers and the tweeters are in dash where the dash and windshield meet. The tweeter placement is awful. I plan on locating tweeters in the doors a little higher up but not too far from the woofers. I know the optimal setup would involve much fabrication and modification to relocate mids/tweets to the pillar or at least much higher on the doors. Would a 3-way setup be worth the effort in a small car like this? I'm contemplating 7 or 8" woofers in the stock location with a 3-4" mid and 1" tweeter in a pod, higher up on the door. Designing passive crossovers isn't a problem (though fine tuning them takes some time to accomplish) so i'm not too concerned about the technical aspect...just...is it worth the effort?

do you love the highs????? i do!!....its always worth the effort!!!! , i have a 93 civic and have more time and energy into my doors , with deadening , custom pods, tweeter placement etc.....than the filthy gravycar is worth.....but my god does it sound good in there!!!! LOL

If you feel confident in designing your own passive crossover networks, but have to ask if 3 ways and moving the tweeters is worth it you are seriosuly throwing mixed signals.
If anything I'd install the tweeters from your set onto the a-pillars. you can build custom pods into the dash for some mids. whether it is worth it or not directly correlates to how passionate you are about great sound.

depending on how big of an installation you're willing to get into a good 2 way component set could perform very well in stock locations, or moving the tweeter to the pillar. Just remember to add as much soundd eadening do your door and door panel as your budget allows. Also since you can place the tweeters anywhere, install everything and experiment with tweeter locations using some Dum Dum to hold the tweets in place while finding your best spot/angles.

don't place the tweeter on the door...it limits your sound stage, you cannot get the best sound stage by having tweeters on the top of the door. You would be surprised how spacious and open your system will sound by using the stock location. Just use a x-over the point as low as possible (3kish)...this is the best option for you. The biggest change for you will notice is using a decent 6.5" woofer with some good power.

I ended up using the stock tweeter location but it's not ideal. The top end is smeared and lacks focus but the only solution is to get the tweeters aimed at my ears instead of at the windshield where it bounces around for a few milliseconds before it even enters the open area of the cabin.
