When it comes to fiber deterioration, I'd have to say that synthetics will break up faster than natural fibre. The reason I say that is because i just opened up a pair of 40 year old speakers, and found a white almost powder like substance that accumilated on the back of the magnet, the insulation was white Dakron. Wool fiber has been excavated in many archeological digs, and despite being broken up by impacted sand, it was still intact.
Absorption rate is a moote point, but the only advantage that synthetics will have IMO .
