Question XXX or 12W7 this time for SQ

I ended up with 2- 12" XXX subs for $400 which I was getting ready to pop in my van. BUT I have now been offered 2- 12" JL 12W7 for $500 including a tuned ribbed box. what would be better to go with my 2 US amps M2 2D Merlins? I have been tossing it around in my mind so lemme have your thoughts. I am thinking of both SPL and SQ, but you sq guys seem to be a bit more knowledgable so please any guidance. thanks

As previously stated .... I haven't heard the XXX but I don't think it can touch a W7 in SQL.

Was two identical threads really necessary....

Ok, this thread seems a tad different, as the other one only asked for sheer output differences. Sound quality wise JL should be better than both older and newer version of XXX. The old version of XXX('05 or older) is still around 55lbs, and JL is at 45lbs. But the SQ will be very very marginal. I've read threads where people said '05 XXX is way better than the new one SQ-wise, and then again the old version of XXX was replaced by Fi Q, which is even better and has wider usable frequency response as in it plays higher better. Output between the older XXX and JL should be very similar, and SQ as well. So really flip a coin. With the newer XXX you may need more power to get the full potential out of it, as it seems fairly inefficient by design.

Thumbs up Hey Sasha, thanks.

I will probably use 1 Amp per sub if I stick with the 2-XXX. If I got with the 2 12W7 I am gonna run them at the 1.3 Ohm and run just one Merlin.
I was told by to many people (stores) the 2nd combo would sound 3x better and the SPL would be about the same depending on box and Hz.

BTW Sasha you guys still have that Focal 18" From Malcolm?

YES! That sub ain't goin' nowhere

Do you know which version XXX's they are? Cause having to shlep two 79 pounders is rediculous, but so is the price you got them for. I have a feeling they are the original RE stuff, and they should be really good for SQ and will whail like emmeffers from what I've read. I am selfishly biased towards the XXX set-up, cause I want to hear them in person. A lot of people have JL, and I've heard them all, so not interested that much.

I'd use what's less weight. Having 300lbs in the trunk is crap mileage. I'd use the XXXv4's in a sealed box, the W7's in a ported, and the 05 XXX in a ported. Less $ powering the W7's and 60lbs less. For SQ nothing's going to touch LMS, XBL^2, and split coil.

XXX subs

The subs are the 05 model ( less excursion, less weght) and as most know better SQ. I was playing with some of the box design softwares ( very limited) and mocked up the following if I use 3 JL. I know it's more SPL style but I want it all I think..lol
