Most likely it will take any stereo input and apply it's own processing to it and create a virtual surround sound(like dolby pro logic or logic 7 ect). I am sure it could take surround sound recordings and just apply it into it's built in logic. The beauty of something like this, is that you don't need time alignment. Here is a definition of what they are doing from wikipedia.

Wave field synthesis (WFS) is a spatial audio rendering technique, characterized by creation of virtual acoustic environments. It produces "artificial" wave fronts synthesized by a large number of individually driven speakers. Such wave fronts seem to originate from a virtual starting point, the virtual source or notional source. Contrary to traditional spatialization techniques such as stereo, the localization of virtual sources in WFS does not depend on or change with the listener's position.

Neat. I wonder who's behind the technology. I'd be surprised if Audi is doing it themselves.

that concept is cool. and there is no way Audi is doing that on their own
