Du Hast by ramstein is a sweet tune to listen to:smilie_da
|
anything by clair marlo...... also check out spies way of the world....
|
Anything by Benny Benassi. In tango, Change style, Dont touch to much. its all crazy bass
the starting is amazing |
most people would overlook this one, but Danity Kane's self titled album is fantastic.
great mix of mids/highs and tear-your-head-off lows |
Bryan Adams - Unplugged, I have the original cd and it sounds simply amazing.
|
Couple of priorities once I get everything installed and dialed in:
Metallica - Welcome Home (Sanitarium) Metallica - One Pantera - Becoming (**awesome highs) Social Distorion - Highway 101 Slayer - Season in the Abyss Machine Head - Old These are also great drive-fast songs..... |
x2 on Pantera - Becoming, my subs can't keep up with the double kicks though :(
I listen to mostly rap but I'll have to say rock takes the highs/mids much better, here's my fave SQ's. Kansas - dust in the wind Goo goo dolls - long way down Deftones - passenger Steve Miller - blinded by the light (great guitar solo) The ending of Pantera - cemetary gates Most Pink Floyd songs The Chronic 2001 DeadPrez RBG for mids Most Tool songs Pac |

Albums:
Enigma - MCMXC a.D. (mixed very cleanly, pretty quiet though) Tool - AEnima, Lateralus NIN - Pretty Hate Machine (mixed pretty quiet though) The double kick drum in Metallica - One is great for sub response. |

Jazz at the pawnshop - Arne Domnerus in XRCD Audiophiles regard this as one of the most perfectly recorded live albums ever The soundstage is amazing .. if 1970's swedish Jazz is your thing :) |

I've been buy up all the Re-Mastered Led Zepplin. I had all the originals on vinyl, then bought cd's, now the re-masters. They got my share of bux.
As for SQ songs, anything by Joe Satriani. Apparently he's an SQ fanatic. OCD. |

Other part of the time I'm playing electronica, mostly unknown for the most part, but generally just a few artists like Tangerine Dream, Bjorn Lynne, and Allister Brimble. Of the three, my favs are: Allister Brimble - Assassin Bjorn Lynne - Space Deliria 2000 Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear For testing and showing off however, I just love Timewarp and Bachbusters published by Telarc, nasty stuff... :-) |
Disagree with Metallica's 'One'. Awesome tune -- but the production is just crap -- they cranked up the drums and the high midranges to the point where the recording is almost devoid of bass guitar (some issues with their bass player at the time) and the low bass is so saturated that it sounds 'tinny'.
Kill Em All is okay, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets, while two of the greatest metal albums of all time, are terribly produced IMHO. Too scratchy, not enough volume on the bass guitar and drums. But -- Metallica's Black album is a constant when I'm testing out equipment or tuning. Also of note, Metallica's Load and Reload are also good for tuning -- I've found the drums are louder here than on the Black album. For an incredible sound experience, though, (not necessarily for tuning) must go with Symphany & Metallica -- Every band on my eq is dancing. Pantera's Far Beyond Driven album is awesome as well -- though I have to tune down the highs for that -- some tracks (Good Friends and a Bottle of Pills) have Dimebag Darrel at his shrieking best. And for pure electronica when tuning, Madonna's Imaculate Collection is superbly produced. I'm not a fan of most of the tunes on it, but it'll put your highs, mids and subs through a hell of a performance. |
TRACKS 30 -50 ON THE DB DRAG CD :smilie_da
|
rebeca pidgeon - spanish harlem
.....and i'll post more later |
Eagles - Hotel California (album Hell Freezes Over). The soundstage is really nice, and you get a bit of everything in this tune.
Rebecca Pidgeon - Spanish Harlem. I have to agree with DoubleXL with this one. It'll also bring out just about any rattle you have in your car. Manowar - Achille's Agony and Ecstacy (the 5 minute drum solo bit). You should have the impression that you're the one playing the drums. Dream Theatre - Hollow Years. Just sounds good imho. Dream Theatre - You Not Me. Has some nice bass in it. Pirates of the Caribbean : At worlds end - Drink Up Me Maties : Nice dynamics in this one, great presence in the horns too. And, few nice bass parts... |
the corrs - what can i do (live hdcd)
this is my favorite song at the moment. a small symphony in the background, very nice acoustic guitar, clean drum kit and a very rich voice to top it all off. |
Sarah McLachlan - Angel
amazing song. period. really love it right now |
Eagles - Hotel California (instrumental version)
Shinedown - Simple Man (acoustic version) Both will make the hair stand up on your arms and the back of your neck. |
Jennifer Warnes - Famous Blue Raincoat (20th Anniversary Edition). My old original version started to skip (I played it 1001 times), so I looked around for another copy. Found a remastered 20th Anniversary Edition of it. Nice recording. Worth checking it out. Difference is subtle, but to guys like Joe, it's probably huge.

Anything Dream Theater. Specially stuff off Systematic Chaos. The highs and mids are amazing.
Or Nautical, by Protest the Hero. The double kicks are insane and the piano/bass/guitars/hi hats come through exquisitely. |
Here are some my favourites. They have a wide and lush frequency range modern or just incredibly well recorded classics.
I work as a sound engineer. I've used these tracks to tune studios and LIVE rigs as well my car. Angel - Massive Attack (Mezzanine) (The perfect mix of sub bass with live drums) Canned Heat - Jamiroquai Digging in the dirt LIVE - Peter Gabriel Beautiful Day - U2 Ends-Everlast (The bassy layered vocals sound absolutey nuts on a good system) Very Well Produced Classics Michael Jackson - Thriller Buffalo Soldier - Bob Marley Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits Dreamer - Supertramp Fly Like and Eagle - Steve Miller Every Breath you Take - The Police World in my Eyes - Depeche Mode Superstition- Stevie Wonder Anything by Enya Fade in you - Mazzy Star Some of these older songs had a lot less compression added to them and aren't as loud as modern songs, but if you have enough power in your system to compensate, they have wonderful dynamics and are amazing mixes. |
Eagles - Hotel California , New York Minute
Genesis Styx- Chicago stevie nicks |
Cold Play
Trance Dance Rap All that good stuff, almost everything really. |
Cars - Candy-O
Clash - Train in vain Beatles - I am the walrus Michael Nuble - Save the last dance for me (nice horn section) George Bensen - Breezin' |
The Simpsons Sing The Blues - SQ is amazing
Marilyn Manson, White World - most Manson CDs I've heard sounded great |
Radiohead - Everything in its Right Place
Dead Can Dance - The Ubiquitous Mr Lovegrove Holly Cole Trio - I Can See Clearly Now Some 80's fun! Wang Chung - Dance Hall Days Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes |
High Quality Trance/Electronic music. You need nothing else if you wanna test your SQ....
|
Just found a track that really surprised me:
Crash Test Dummies - "Keep a Lid on Things" Sounds amazing when played loud on good system. |
Reggae
Trance RnB I just heard David Cook from the recent American Idol, his rendition of You Will Always Be My Baby by Mariah. One of my fave... |
Amazing song and sound:
Audioslave - Like a stone |
Dire Straights - Brothers in arms
Blue Rodeo - 5 Days in May |
any progressive/trance is good to feel it all. the crystal method is good to test it all as well
|
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole - Somewhere Over The Rainbow / What A Wonderful World

for best SQ try "Soviet Connection" aka Grand Theft Auto IV Theme. Plays many orchestra instruments and has an electronic feel to it.

ZZ Top - Lowrider
