08 city golf

Hi, I have an 08 city golf, and i've looked all over for a wiring harness for this car, and with no luck, I cant find a wiring diagram either.

I managed to find the speaker wires and everything else, but there are 2 constant 12V wires and no Accessory switched 12v wire.

Is this a common volkswagen thing or do I need to throw a switch in there somewhere?

thanks for any help

There are some issues with VW's these days. The factory radio has a computer chip in it that deals with emissions. If you pull that deck out, the communication ceases. To deal with this, Scoshce and Metra have come up with a bypass module. They're about $175.00, but they provide an accessory wire. Call your local car stereo shop.

the accesory is a data turn on, not sure about the emmsion stuff though. Doesn't matter anyways because the same part, the $175 dollar one IS the one you need. Don't cheap out on some no name piece of crap, you've got a brand new car use reputable parts. And by the way the city golf is only called that in canada, so when you ask for parts make sure their looking at the correct parts list.

Thank you very much ....too bad my local stereo shops suck. They told me golfs havent changed and that a 2006 wire harness would work and it didn't, so im not going to trust them anymore..so im going to have to make a trip to a major city...

The emissions thing is pretty much bunk. the adapter only converst the data signal and give you acc out and retains radio shutdown with door open (RAP).

the 2006+ harness is all that is needed (plus antenna adapter) and a VW pocket if your not installing a double Din head unit.

The catch is that you will have to actually run your own wire from the head unit to the fuse box and your head unit will only turn on with ignition. (or you can use a relay on the keysense wire)

If you ever want information on what your emissions are doing, then either retain the factory deck or install this bypass. I did what your friend here suggested before I knew there was such a thing and the customer was EXTREMELY PISSED when he tried to have some work done on his car. It cost him a lot more. Now that I know, I always suggest it.

I've heard about the emmsions thing before and I'm not convinced. I do know however that there is a wire that goes to the radio that IS needed for the scanners when going to a dealership. On most aftermarket wireing harnesses it has the power antenna wire coloring and if it is hooked up in that manner it WILL cause problems. That may be where the emmisions thing came from. Either way better to be safe then sorry, get the right part the first time and don't screw stuff up. Maybe someone knows a V-Dub tech who could shed some light on the situation, you know the kind with tech manuals and not just hearsay. There has to be at least one on this board!

I'll be calling my good friend Dave who is the Service manager at one of the VW dealers in montreal to see if there is anything.
