Question 8Ga power, what sub & amp?

For various reasons its likely im limited to an 8gauge power run for my sub & amp. (nothing else off it)

Whats about the Best sounding, quality 10inch i could run off it?

Think its sufficient for a single 10w7 with the appropriate amp?

What is your budget for the amp and sub? I would not want to go much more than 500w rms on a 8 gauge line of any length that most vehicles require. What is the vehicle and the balance of the system?

the budget is basically whatever.. i dont wanna drop a grand but $500 wouldnt make me blink.

the car is a 1990 vw jetta.

the rest of the system is a pair of 5.25 ZR series JLAudio components in the front doors (verrrrrrrry nice speakers, i luvs them) and right now a pair of DigitalDesigns 6x9s in boxes on the rear shelf all powered off a Jlaudio 300/4 V2 amp running on its own 8 gauge.

My thought is, on the advice of another audiophile, if i want real SQ, to eliminate the rears entirely, power the front speakers off that amp(or swap in a great quality 2channel) and use a nice sub.

the sub is going against the back seats, ive ripped the entire trunk out to bare metal and put in more dynamat than anyone has a right to own

What one "audiofool" may like another "audiophile" may not. If the recommendation of the "audiophile" were truly valid, he would tell you to throw more money into better front speakers and rca cables prinkled with virgin silk. So take audiophile comments with a grain of salt. It is up to your ears what you like. Yes the front speakers are most important, yes they should have an amplifier on them. After that rear fill is up to you. I like rear fill and I have liked rear fill in my vehicles for the 22 years I have been in the industry. As such, the recommendation to remove my rear speakers as recommended by so many over the years well, it is just not going to happen.

If you are happy with the sound as it is now, that is all that is important. Quick test, disconnect the rca cables for the rear speakers and play away and see how much you like it.

I have some incredible deals on subs and amps right now. If a 10" is what you are after I have one that is a top of the line going for a little low price right now. Matter of fact it is one left only. Give it the right box and the right size amp and you are good to go. I will work up a package based on that. You appear to be after good sound and not bass to kill then neighbourhood, is this correct?

Get rid of the rear speakers, and only power the fronts off the front channel. Run a 10" subwoofer, something of a nice quality, off the rear channels. Build yourself a nice ported enclosure and call it a day.

Here is a link to a clearout sub that I have that is designed to reach deep and low with authority. It is not a one not wonder type of sub. It is a really good sounding sub in the right box. I have one of these subs left at $219.99 + gst and shipping right now. I can find a dealer to build you the custom box in Edmonton or I can build it and ship one up to you if you prefer. I will find a amp to match tomorrow when my shop is open. I am trapped in Whistler right now as part of the Olympic Security Contingent and am posted here until at least Saturday.
