Advice,Tips and tricks for 04 sierra 4 door

Hi all I have an 04 sierra 4 door and when i bought it used a few years ago I had a system installed by jb power in edmonton.

Well when i got the truck back apparantly they couldnt get the module i needed to interface with the truck so they bypassed it some how and now my deck works but not with sattelitel radio just ipod control. The remote start locks and steering wheel controls do not function, rear radio doesnt work you get the picture.

There is a big story why I couldnt get them to fix and Im not here to slag them or advertise as i would not recommend them at that time.

So now im left with the system as mentioned and would like to get in there and get it working properly.

What do I need to interface a pioneer avh5000 dvd with the truck?

Any links to stripping the dash to access it?

Harnesses, modules etc I would need?

My subs are behind the back seats and they dont pound very good, any sierra owners with different set ups or advice for locations?

Thanks for any help in advance

Chris

Where abouts are you located now? I might be best to head to a shop that can look after you properly for the issues you are mentioning.

Basic stereo system or Bose? On-Start or no? If your truck has niether the only thing you will need a module for is the door chime. If you can live without it, you can run a wire to the fuse panel of the truck for the deck's +ACC wire. As for steering wheel controls, that is a seperate module, which I don't have the part number for you at the moment. Pioneer makes one I'm sure, but I couldn't find it as of typing this out. There are generic ones available, but they require you to drill a hole to mount an IR sender in front of the deck... It basically acts like the deck's remote, but I don't like drilling holes for that kind of thing when there are direct fit units out there, and I've found some reliability issues with them. If there is a factory amp it will need to be bypassed (especially with a sub) or it will sound like bawls, I would run new wires directly from the deck out to the four speakers. Also, if it is a Bose system, once you put an aftermarket deck in it, you lose fader and related controls. Even though the factory deck will change those settings, it's actually sending a digital signal to the Bose amp, it is the combination of the amp and deck that gives you those features. I take the time to run all new wires in those trucks, that way the aftermarket deck has full control over the system. Hope this helps. If I find part numbers or places to find what you need, I'll post them up for you.

Also, I could only find the AVH-P5200bt on Pioneer's site, and it doesn't have steering wheel control compatibility, so you may want to break out your manual and see if it actually has the capability to do it before you start hunting for adapter modules. So to recap, was it a Bose system or not to start, does it have On-Star or not, and does your deck's manual say the deck can use steering wheel controls? If it's Bose, factory amp needs to be bypassed and all your problems are solved, if not, you have other issues we need to figure out. Can your deck use steering wheel controls? That will answer that issue. Oh, it's XM that you have for sat radio right?

Thanks for the reply

It is a Bose system with out on star using serious sat radio star mate 5 with the built in fm modulator sounding like crap.

Looking at the manual right now for the steering whell controls.

Okay, the Bose system needs to be bypassed. I run new wires right off the deck to the speaks. If you can live without a door chime, run a wire to the fuse panel and make that your +ACC. If you have to have the door chime, or would feel better running a module, you can get the GMCO (bestkits.com). Invest in an auxilary cable if your deck has an aux in or RCA in. If not, hit up a Canadian Tire, Best Buy, car audio shop, wherever stocks wired FM modulators. The built in FM mod is junk, the wired unit is basically a T harness that plugs into the vehicle's antenna, and the radio's antenna "in". You'll need an adapter to go from the aftermarket style antenna plug to the GM antenna (it's probably already in there if the deck's in and the radio stations come in). It still works like the built in FM mod, but instead of trying to broadcast it over the air, it modulates it right into the antenna itself. Hard wired into any car

From what ive read on the net the bose speakers are 2 ohms will the pioneer HU be ok to run those speakers? I thought i read that the pioneer built in amp was out putting 50 watts per channell at 4 ohms?

The deck should be fine. The impedance the deck "sees" will fluctuate, and I think you will find the speakers running somewhere a little north of 4 ohm especially after being played for some time. 50 watts, suffice it to say, is most each speaker will have for power is 13wrms.
