okay well i am deciding on the location of my amp. it is in the trunk and i am wanting to save space because i still want to be able to use my trunk so i was wondering how amps perform upside down?? i was going to mount it on the bottom of my sub box which is going to be attached to my rear seat so that when i fold it down it pops into the cabin pointing at the roof. but in doing so i can still put long objects in the trunk and what not. is this a good or bad idea? any opinions greatly apreciated as i dont have money to spend on new equipment.

if it's small enough you can toss it under the seat, also check for room in the spare tire well

I've never tried running an amp upside down, but considering that no one suggests it, it's probably not too good of an idea. Just touch an amp after it's been playing for a few hours and you'll see just how hot they get

 

Why on earth would you want to bring the subs into the car, facing up????
They're going to give you lots better sound facing the trunk, as close to the back as practical.
Mount the amp to the seat, and you can always do a quick dis-connect of your box for the odd time you need the space.

Heat, vibration, and moisture are the 3 worst enemies of electronics....never mount an amp to a sub box, and always keep em upright or vertical.
Under the seat should be a last resort, and if you have to, make sure to stand the amp off the carpet to prevent all the winter's salt water from siphoning through the carpet to your amp.

Mounting of an amplifier will depend on how it was designed.

Some amps can be mounted upside down.

 

General rules to follow....just 'cause you mount your stuff wrong doesn't mean it will break.

If you do decide to bend the rules to suit the install, make sure everything else (power wires, grounds, etc is over done....errors add up.

Upside down is bad for an amp...ever light a match upside down?...you'll notice that the flame rises up...that is how the heat will rise also inside the amp up into the circuit board.

 

Unless the amp was designed for it,I wouldnt run it upside down.Lots of amps will overhaet or get hotter that they should.

 

Kyle is rite.......... some amps are designed differently to get rid of heat.
