So I went to a local shop to have my amp Installed and was not expecting the quote I got.. My current setup is a jvc deck with 1 set of preouts running to a concept 2 channel amp thats running bridged to my sub. What I wanted them to do was install my new 2 channel amp to run to my front speakers which are currently running off the head unit. Shop guy's quote looks like this:

$36 -12 ft. Power cable 4 awg (He says the current 8 awg running from the battery to the 1 amp wont be sufficient to handle the drain from 2 amps.)

$30 -6 Feet of rca to connect/split the amp (Since the head unit only has the 1 set of pre-outs)

$22 -20 Feet of speaker wire (Can't he just use the existing speaker wire running from the head unit???)

$85 -Amplifier mounting under seat (1.5 Hours Labour)

$220 -Rewire door speakers (4 Hours labour)

$24.95 -Distribution Block (Do I really need one?)

GRAND TOTAL

$417.00$

So Whats the deal... am I gettin hosed?

That 4 hours to rewire speakers is a bit high IMHO.

Also the wiring looks a bit on the excessive side to me but relatively average-priced (from a shop) to me, as buying an entire prepackaged amp install 'kit' generally would run you between 75-150 depending on brand name, features etc. The distribution block, I would imagine your being sold on a brand name like a Phoenix gold distro or an RF block or something, there, but 10-25 bucks seems like the general range.

Factor in a couple hours to actually install, and you're looking at about 200 dollars to install the amp.

The extra $220 for the speaker rewiring smells to me. Maybe in your vehicle rewiring speakers is uber-difficult, but from experience, I'd be very put-off by that figure for that job.
Technically you could wire up the amp to the deck via the preouts, and splice the existing speaker wires onto a new set which you run with the rest of the amp wiring (RCAs) to the deck. I would imagine that since the amp install is being done in 1.5 hours, the extra time needed to run another set of wires with the amp RCAs or whatever would take maybe another half-hour to tape them together, but not 4 more hours.

A little sketchy, in my mind.

good luck

The deck in your sig, the JVC KD-AR300, has TWO SETS OF PREOUTS, according to JVC's website.

Just FYI.

First, Get yourself an amplifier wiring kit, cost @ walmart 40 dollars.

Then. Go down to your local bestbuy/futureshop. They will install the amp for under 60 dollars. Then ask them to wire up the speakers, they provide the wiring for this...should cost about 35 bucks for 4 speakers.

Grand Total= 135$

Whoever gave you that quote is nuts. Really.
