Unhappy Bonneville Help Needed

I'm looking for some help with installation of a Kenwood deck into a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SLE - I'm from the Niagara region, and car audio doesn't seem to be as abundant here - I've been told by a local car audio place that the stereo harness I'm going to need can range anywhere from $150.00 - $250.00. I had this same deck installed in a different vehicle for much, much less. Has anyone had any experience with this? Would anyone be able to direct me somewhere to obtain this harness for less money? I'd hate to have to spend this much just to install a deck. I've found harnesses online ranging $7.99 +, but apparently they're not compatible with the vehicle completely?.. I'm at a loss!

Any help is greatly appreciated

The official stance is that all GM cars 2000 and newer need to have a radio relocation harness or similar radio elimination harness.

Some people ignore this, buy an $8 harness and find IGN on thier own.

The choice is yours but most professional installers are going to hesitate not using the harness GM advises is needed.

I have a 2000 GMC and just got a cheap harness from FutureShop, wired it up myself without a problem.. except for the 'beep' setting on two different decks no longer working after a few months. no idea on that but meh.

A buddy had the same problem; 3 different stores were telling him he *needed* a $150+ wiring harness. that wasn't happening so we got a $7 one that looked like it fit from Visions, wired it up ourselves and had no problems.
