About 5 months ago I installed a Compustar 2w900FMAS in a customer's 05 SRT4. The unit has been working great untill a few days ago.

I only had a few minutes to look at it quickly today. The customer will be back in Thursday if the dealer doesn't resolve the issue.

The car had the drivers door severly damaged when some kid at a car wash place backed it out and got the door caught on a wall.... The door was repaired last week.

Here is what I figgured out today:

When locking and unlocking w/ the compustar the CS responds normally (did not have time to test actual lock/unlock outputs). However the car's DLs and factory alarm are completely un-responsive.

Occasionally when the arming the CS it will show that a door is open.

The factory door locks do not respond at all from the interior switches. He says they have been reversed since the car visited the body shop. Yesterday they stopped working completely.

The factory remote does not work at all under normal circumstances.

The factory remote ONLY works when the drivers door is OPEN. Even then it does not actually lock or unlock the doors. All that happens is the lights flash and you can hear the relays in the keyless module in the center of the dash clicking repedly....

Customer said that for the last few days all the locks have been working fine except the drivers door. As well when the driver's door didn't unlock the factory alarm would not dissarm with the CS.

Also, he just called and said that when he uses the inside DL switch... Nothing happens, BUT his gauge cluster says "door" as if a door was open

I'll check the outputs of the CS Thursday... Personally I'm leaning towards it being the car itself.... Anyone have any other suggestions or comments?

Hey

It sounds like a broken wire in the door jamb or switch connector. I've seen some break inside the insulation so it's not visible from the outside. If the door was badly bent out of shape it couild have damaged a connector or wire @ the connector too. Could be a short somewhere too.

Good Luck, J

So your bets are that it's the dealership's fault it's not working right?

I have yet to talk to them, but my customer is saying the dealership is saying that it's 100% the remote starter's fault that the locks are messed up...

all of the charges should go back to the car wash so i wouldn't be scared to charge atll for the work you do. it sure doesn't sound like a starter failure to me.

To properly test it, you would need to unsolder any wires that are connected to the car from the AS unit.

I would bet that it's bad wiring in the door from replacing it.
Sounds like the wiring is messed.

Should take less than 15 minutes to unwire the unit if needed.

Ok,here is the update.

The car's electrical system is ****ED... Locks, power windows, pwr steering... A bunch of things are not working.

Crysler has decided NOT to honor warranty on the car because they say the CS caused all the damage.

Basically, I am 100% confident in my install. I know the problems are not a cause of the intall itself.

The customer is basically stuck w/o warranty at the moment. He has not mentioned me being responsable for anything, but that is always at the back of my head...

What can I do to help him out.. And of course to cover my *** just incase?

If you have installed everything correctly then nothing is cut and all original wires are not cut just spliced onto.

Remove those wires.

Show the dealer the car yourself without the unit installed and BITCH....

You'd be suprised how much gets done when you raise your voice when all else fails.

The only wire that got cut was the starter wire for the anti-grind and starter kill...

Basically the owner does not want to let me see the vehicle for some reason...
