Connector on back of head unit

I have a real newb issue here.

I'm replacing an old alpine (2001) head unit for a less old kenwood (2006).

The connector on the back looked identical at first, but it wouldn't fit. Then I noticed the last two pins on the kenwood are spaced slightly closer together.

What is the reason for this? Are the wires laid out completely differently? Or can I do something quick and easy to make it work?

Thanks !

Are you referring to the wiring harness which plugs in to the rear of the deck. If so you must wire in the proper Kenwood harness. Even if the harnesses between the Alpine and the Kenwood look similar they are not. Even with the same brand they are often different.

Agreed, I have seen a few fried H/Us due to people thinking it fits so it should work right.
