Deck install Help - 99 Mercury Mystique

I have looked all over for answer to this question but I can't find one so I hope you guys can help me.

My Grandfather just recently gave me my first car his "OLD" 99 Mercury Mystique (less than 70 000K and all dealer maintained). It only has a tape deck in it lol. My buddy gave me his old clarion deck so I could listen to cd's in the car. We ripped the dash apart wired it up properly, we tried the radio and a CD before we reassembled the dash and it worked.

Now here is the dilema: The Clarion Deck fits in the factory hole perfectly its just we can't secure it in place. The tapedeck had two expanding clips on the side of it so when we put it in the hole it clipped into the dash nice and secure. But the clips can't come off the tapedeck so we can't put them on the Clarion deck. There is nothing in the dash to bolt the clarion deck to to secure it so, it sits in the hole and flops about.

The car will last a couple of years but I don't want to pay to get the deck installed at a local shop cause they charge an arm and a leg, and although the clarion deck is nice it isn't worth the $100 to get it installed.

And FYI my buddy has experience installing car Audio and he is stumped as to how to fix this situation.

So my question to you how do we secure it in place?

Thanks for your help!

C

Did you remove the deck from the factory sleeve? I think you should just remove the original HU from the sleeve using Universal-DIN-Tool-Pair and use the factory sleeve for the Clarion.

If i remember correctly that's what i did few years ago in my friend Taurus

Just buy the dash mount kit. It will have all the brackets, trim etc. to install it properly. Can be found for $20 at Future shop/ Best buy. I found this one here, does it look like what you need? It is the 6th one down. SKU 99-5700

a 100$ to install????? where the hell did you go. lmao. ya get a kit and install shouldnt be more than 50$ not including the harness kit and antena adapter

AND a deck is a deck no matter how much you pay... if you cant install properly get someone that knows how to do it even if it costs a little more than the deck itself.

Yeah Danyman local places wanted about $100 (inc Tax) to install it and I mean the deck is old and it isn't a necessity (money's a little tight till summer) so it wasn't worth it to me to spend that much on it. I know about this so my buddy is doin it all and he has a bunch of experince with this. We just couldn't find an installation kit locally so he needed a couple of ideas. But 420guy pointed one out so I am going to get that for him.

thanks

So I fianlly have a cd player. We tried to take the "sleeve" off of the facotry stero and put it on the clarions, turns out the Factory Stereo didn't have a sleeve to take off. So we bought a installation kit which on the box said it would work for my car, no dice as the instruction booklet left out the instructions for my car. So I decided to stop being quasi cheap and went out and bought a new Sony CDX-GT420IP deck that comes with a sleeve and put that in the car instead of the free clarion. The Sony fit perfectly, we had do some minor sanding of the dash to fit it in but now it is on there solid as a rock.

Thanks for all you're suggestions and help!
