Fiberglass enclosures
I have noticed a few question on fiberglass here lately but none have asked mine! I have only done a few fiberglass installs, but my question is why does no one seem to use mold release? In the few that i have done all we used tape for was to keep the resin off of the surrounding panels. I guess the big reason no one mentioned it is your installs are over carpet. If doing this over paint or bare metal try mold release wax. This stuff is great apply it, Fiberglass your piece, wait for it to cure, And then give it a thump with a mallet and boom out it comes. No masking and no removing all of the tape. My question is does anyone else use this method, if so share your stories!
I use mold release and PVA all the time. I don't do it in a spare tire well though cause I believe that those should be permenant so that they don't rattle or anything.
Mold release is good only if it is applied right, many people don't apply it, then let it dry then buff it off. Most people just applied and start glassing over it. It won't release as well most of the time if you do that.
